     Tube feeding is used when an individual cannot eat or drink enough food and nutrients orally and they must be delivered nutrients through a tube in their stomach or intestine.  Feeding tubes are inserted into the stomach or the small inserting directly through the skin on the individual’s stomach or through a tube inserted into the nose and into the esophagus.  The nutrients inserted into the feeding tube are called formula and are in a liquid form.  Complete formulas will contain all of the nutrients and vitamins and minerals needed in order for the individual to grow and develop as they would by consuming food orally.
